Freeride Trail Camp Lago Maggiore 2.0 – Back to Trail Paradise

It’s been quite a while. My last camp at Lago Maggoire was 7 years ago. It’s time for a new edition of this super cool biking playground! Lago Maggiore 2.0 is in the house!

This area is a jewel with its fascinating combination of water, mountains and the mediterranean climate! Around the region of Lago Maggiore and Lago di Orta we’ll find everything that we adore. The wild and seemingly untouched nature starts just behind the promenade. Walking into the back country for some minutes you’ll end up in a jungle. It is deep green, entangled but also unspoilt – such places are hard to find in Europe. The Val Grande Wilderness National Park is located just around the corner. From the Top you can see the  huge Monte Rosa range

There’s not only astonishing nature but also a variety of different trails everywhere. The area surrounding the two lakes got a lot of new trails within the last years – the locals literally went crazy building a huge network of trails. Wicked! They often dug out old paths of smugglers, partisans and herdsmen and turned them into nice biking trails with some modification and a lot of love. These trails cannot be compared to the “highways” in places like Sölden etcetera. We’re talking about single trails here, which are demanding but also playful. So every crew developed their own style. Terriffic! We’ll take you to really far-flung locations, of course! Although the mountains are not very big the trails have high-alpine flair. Steep sides offer deep views into the valleys, which could as well be in the Andes as in the Himalayas. To reach the summits we’ll almost always have to carry our bikes, but if you are ready to accept that, you’ll be rewarded with endless, more than 1000 metres long downhill trails. Wait and see!

Enjoying the Dolce Vita is a must. Our base will be Intra/ Verbania. It’s the perfect place to go to a restaurant, sip Aperol in a nice bar and have some gelati at the lake.

Lago Maggiore Trail Camp 2.0. I can’t think of a better way to start into the season!

Technik

Kondition

There will be daily stages of up to 1,500 metres uphill and 3,000 metres downhill. There will be sections of about 700 metres uphill where you’ll have to push or carry your bike.

Wearing a helmet is compulsory throughout the whole tour. We strongly recommend wearing protectors. Please bring a full suspension bike with 150mm suspension travel and disc brakes.

At first sight, the distances might not seem a lot. However, the days will be long and exhausting. We will often be between 2,000 and 3,000 metres above sea level and the air is going to be thin the further we ride uphill. You ought to be aware of the fact that you will need to be totally focused on the trails when riding down. This will be super exhausting for your body and mind! So please be prepared!

One more thing:
This tour is challenging when it comes to your riding techniques and physical fitness! You ought to have experience with challenging trails and different kinds of soil – this is a prerequisite! Few parts of this tour are exposed and will be signalled by the guide early on. You need good stamina and a certain drive to ride, push and carry your bike about 1,500 metres up in one go. We assume that you control your bike safely and use equipment of high quality.

Day 1: Intra,Italy

Having arrived individually, we’ll meet at our meeting point in Intra at 7.00 pm. During a cozy dinner we discuss the program of the following days.

Days 2-7:

We are purposely not giving away the details of the route of this tour. At the moment, no other guiding company offers this tour, because one has to explore the whole area before beeing able to guide here. We worked really hard to prepare this camp for you. If you are passionate about mountain biking and nature, and have some pioneering spirit, you would simplylove this camp. You will definitively experience tremendous impressions of the unique landscape and trails. You will break new ground in a region you thought you knew already!

  1. Approx. 14,000 metres downhill/ Approx. 4,000 metres uphill

Day 8:

After a nice and cosy breakfast we will be taken back to the starting point by an external shuttle car, followed by a well-deserved closing off-session. From here, everyone departs individually.

This offer is subject to changes, as we have not completed our exploring. New tours and opportunities might come up, which we would then integrate in the tour to optimise this trip for you.
